I truly believe that as a small business owner we have an obligation to support efforts in our community and fundraise for local organizations that are close to our hearts.
So, over the past few years I have raised funds at Christmas for Broken Promises Rescue with Just Doggin' it Daycare successfully raising over $800 in the course of our efforts.
This year however things just did not work out and I started looking for other local organizations to help. By chance I connected with Bosley's in Duncan, and heard of Homes For Hooves that are up in the Cowichan Valley. This organization provides forever home for rescued farm animals who have been abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances, and over the past year they have taken over other rescue organizations animals that have had to pull the plug. In fact I found out that they stepped up and took in the animals from RASTA's and added quite a few 4 leggeds to their already large compliment of farm animal rescues.
Here is a bit from their FB Page:
- We currently care for nearly 200 residents including pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, peafowl, dogs, guinea pigs, and cats. We ensure all our animals are provided with the best quality care and a safe home where they are able to live out their natural lives. We strive to promote the welfare of animals and we aim to advance education by providing workshops, seminars, classes, and presentations on animal practices, rescue, and care.
So on December 4/5th I was set up and worked with 12 plus clients for some fun Christmas themed images of them with their fur children. We managed to raise a total of $250 (plus some cash donation) for a total of $300. I am so heart warmed with the support from Bosley's to offer space for this event and so happy to have seen so many adorable families show up to support such a good cause. The experience and the cause now has my soul inspired on other ways to help via photography. Calendars maybe... oh one never knows. For now, enjoy some of the images from the past weekends session.
