"Thank you for your interest in K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch"
and that is how I found myself attending a local K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch club in Lake Cowichan. I guess I should step back a bit.. a few months back I was nipped by the sport dog photography world and I am a bit hooked. I have been to a few 'practices' to meet dogs, owners and practice shooting. These dogs are FAST and so wiggly in the air, it's a skill to capture them.
Anyhow I met Bryce, via FB who wanted to start a toss and fetch league in my are. His vision. is to introduce as many people and dogs as possible to this super fun and easy game! He has now set up a once a week event, where each team (human/dog) gets two runs. Either 60 or 90 seconds to complete as many catches as possible within the marked field.
At the moment the field is in Honeymoon Bay behind the hall (the 'dog' park) and meet ups start at 6 pm. The nice part of this kind of event is it is a “dog sport” and is treated as such. That really means the dogs won’t be socializing with each other and only one dog on the field at a time, this allows dogs that need some extra space or don't like other dogs a safe place to come play.
If your dog doesn’t catch frisbees that is totally fine too, rollers are allowed and much easier for most dogs to catch Bryce is happy to show newbies the ropes.
If you want to see more join the group on FB. Lake Cowichan Disc Dogs
I hung out for the event and did ALOT of shooting... here's the full gallery of the night.
In other news, Sept 10th weekend is the World Cup for Frisbee Toss & Fetch in Nanaimo - you bet you will see me there!
